According to a March 19 eMissourian.com report, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary recently released safety tips for boaters to keep in mind as summer approaches.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary assists the Coast Guard with all its missions that do not involve the military or direct law enforcement. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is one of a number of organizations touting boating safety ahead of National Safe Boating Week, May 17 through May 23, which kicks off the 2014 North American Safe Boating Campaign.
The Auxiliary’s boating tips include:
- Ensure life jackets are immediately accessible;
- Never operate a vessel while impaired by drugs or alcohol;
- Always wear a life jacket when you go out on the water;
- Use only U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets, and replace any life jackets that are worn out or have rips or tears;
- Make sure everyone is wearing a life jacket that is the correct size for them, especially children who can easily slip out of jackets that are too large for them;
- Keep your vessel in proper condition.
