According to CNN, a cruise ship struck a wall in the Eisenhower Lock in New York on June 18, injuring 17 passengers.

The news outlet reported that several passengers had to be sent to an area hospital for treatment following the accident. There were 274 people on the Saint Laurent, a 286-foot vessel, when the accident occurred, including passengers and crewmembers. The accident occurred in the Saint Lawrence Seaway in Massena.

The accident remains under investigation. Witnesses said that the vessel was entering a lock when it struck an approach wall bumper. The impact of the crash reportedly punched a hole into the vessel’s hull, causing it to take on water.

The vessel was taking tourists to Ontario, Canada and is operated by Miami-based FleetPro. The ship reportedly remained stable after a salvage crew and a U.S. Coast Guard team responded to the accident, allowing people who were not injured to remain on the boat until buses could come by and remove them from the vessel.
