According to American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the risks that elderly drivers pose to their fellow motorists and boat operators often stem from poor health or age-related changes. Age-related changes can include diminished vision, slowed reaction time and muscular deterioration.
According to WITN-TV, a recent recreational boating accident in Craven County, North Carolina involved a vessel operated by a 90-year-old man. The wreck happened on Trent River near marker 9 at about 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday.
The 90-year-old operator’s pleasure boat reportedly crashed into a tour boat for yet to be determined reasons. The tourist craft involved in the wreck belongs to TugBoat Cruises, a sightseeing company that provides tours of the Neuse and Trent River area.
The accident resulted in no injuries, according to WITN-TV.
